THE PRONAOS
Welcome to the Temple of the Two Guides. You are standing in the Pronaos.
The Pronaos (πρόναος, “before the temple”) is the outer chamber that stands before the Naos, the innermost sanctuary of the Temple. In ancient Greek temples, the pronaos formed a transitional space between the world outside and the sacred interior—a threshold through which one passed when approaching the dwelling place of the deity. In the Temple of the Two Guides, the Pronaos serves this same essential purpose while also functioning as a place of communal religious life. Here visitors may pause and prepare themselves before entering the Naos, present offerings upon the communal altar, encounter the deity honored during the month, and make use of the Temple library for study and reflection. The Pronaos therefore belongs neither entirely to the ordinary world outside nor to the more restricted sacred space beyond. It is a place of approach and preparation, where the visitor crosses from everyday activity into the ordered, reverent atmosphere of the Temple.
